New Year, New Hair
Just before Christmas on typically one of the wettest and windiest days of the week I decided to have a trip to Hob Salon in Loughton for a new year cut. I've been feeling a bit disenchanted with my hair over the past few months feeling like it was just hanging there, particularly on the days when I was just wash and go.
A few months ago I went to Rush in Piccadilly for a consultation on a cut and colour but decided not to proceed as the quote was rather more than I'd like to pay and I couldn't decide whether the effort of stripping existing colour from my hair etc was worth it and give it a few weeks when money was tight I'd be reaching for the home dye kit and ruining all their good efforts.
Instead I decided to return to a local salon and my hairdresser of old. The stylist was the one who took my hair from long to short in one hit and also cuts and colours my mum's hair. I explained I wanted to go a bit lighter, change up my hair, add a bit of a side fringe etc during a consultation but unfortunately when I left the salon after the appointment I was disappointed. The cut was great, the colour, despite some issues which were thankfully resolved there and then was fine but for what I still ended up paying and the final results didn't meet my expectations.
Another few weeks passed and the greys were starting to show through and I had to decide whether to go back to the home dye kits or persevere with salon dye jobs. As you saw from my December Empties post here I reached for the trusty box of L'Oreal.
Colour issues dealt with I still wanted something more from the style so I made a risky appointment two days before Christmas (would Christmas be spent sulking over a bad hair day?) with Hob Salon. I'd heard good things about this local salon and many years ago had had various appointments so armed with my usual just wash and go styled hair I sat with my fabulous new stylist Kay and explained my woes.
Immediately I was put at ease as Kay looked through my hair and identified issues (similar to those raised by the Rush stylist for info) and explained what she could do and that she would show me how I'd need to blow dry the style myself at home.
After a relaxing session in the massage chair as my hair was washed it was time for the scissors to get to work. One of my issues was the side fringe that had been cut in previously generally parted or wasn't enough that it just looked like a misshapen shorter piece of hair. She ensured she cut more into the fringe to weigh it down better and demonstrated how to blow dry it - and I have adopted her technique since and it works fantastically. This cut is one of the first that when I style at home I see similar results to when I walked out of the salon - admittedly I'm a bit windswept in the photo above!
Overall I walked out of Hob Salon extremely happy, and not before making an appointment for a tidy up next month - at last I've found my perfect hairdresser.
